Stone circles are archaeological sites, parts of living landscapes and places that continue to carry personal and communal meaning. We present established evidence clearly, acknowledge uncertainty and trace later stories to reliable sources wherever possible.

- Documented descriptions, antiquarian accounts and dated traditions.
- Folklore
- Stories and customs passed between people, whether or not literally true.
- Modern account
- Contemporary spiritual practice, experience and interpretation.
Visiting responsibly
These are often fragile monuments on working land. Never move stones, dig, light fires or leave offerings. Respect closures, livestock, ceremonies and the people who live nearby.
